Matt is The Lawyer’s director of insight. He joined The Lawyer in 2003 as features editor and became deputy editor in 2014. He has written on a wide range of topics related to the business of law and management of legal services organisations. Paul Kinninmont, Partner, Commercial Dispute Resolution, Freeths

Paul specialises in international arbitration – commercial and investment, institutional and ad hoc –  as well as related injunctive relief and award enforcement. Paul’s arbitration experience encompasses different geographies, applicable laws, seats and sectors, including joint ventures, renewable energy, oil and gas, construction, life sciences, technology and project finance. He has frequently co-counselled efficiently and effectively with legal practitioners from countries around the world.Having drafted several New York Convention compliant awards, Paul accepts appointments as an arbitrator. He is also an accomplished litigator at first instance and on appeal, again across a range of sectors. Please see below for further details.

Paul deploys his expertise to help clients to mitigate political risk when structuring transactions and/or to advise clients on how best to draft contracts to ensure enforcement of their contractually agreed allocation of risk. He is adept at dispute avoidance, settlement and mediation.

Paul is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Arbitrators. He holds an LLM in International Dispute Resolution, speaking at industry events and lecturing regularly.

Jenny Lau, Head of Arbitration, iLaw

Jenny is a Partner in the dispute resolution team at a boutique called iLaw.  She has extensive experience across a broad range of international commercial disputes and regularly works with banks, mining companies and other international businesses assisting with early-stage disputes and both High Court litigation and arbitral proceedings.  Jenny has also acted for Claimants in treaty arbitrations and, most recently, is assisting a liquidator with the recovery of assets involved in a substantial and complex potential fraud spanning five jurisdictions.

 

 

Fiona Meany, Global Head of Litigation, JLL

Fiona trained at a prestigious London law firm before qualifying as a litigator in 2009. During her time in private practice, Fiona defended a range of high-value claims against professionals including solicitors, surveyors and accountants.

In 2016, Fiona moved in-house, joining global real estate advisory firm JLL. As Global Head of Litigation, Fiona is responsible for strategic oversight and management of JLL’s global portfolio of disputes and also sits on JLL’s Legal Executive Committee. In addition, Fiona is a member of the Law Society of England and Wales’s Civil Justice Committee, which aims to benefit the legal community and legal profession

 

 

Richard Blann, Head of Group Litigation & Conduct Investigations Legal, Lloyds Banking Group

Richard Blann is Head of Group Litigation for the Lloyds Banking Group, a position he has held since joining the Group in April 2010. In this role he has responsibility for a broad portfolio of major contentious matters in the UK, US and beyond, supports significant internal investigations, and advises on financial crime and sanctions issues.
