Mills & Reeve is an East Anglian-headquartered firm with roots that go back several hundred years. The moment that started its growth into a large modern commercial practice came in 1987 when Mills & Reeve, then solely a Norwich firm with a long history of serving the local agricultural community, merged with Francis & Co of Cambridge, creating a significant regional powerhouse.
The firm moved into Birmingham in 1998 primarily to service healthcare clients, but has since grown that office into a full-service offering. The London office opened a couple of years later, in 2000. The firm waited eight years before expanding its geographical footprint further but took over Addleshaw Goddard’s family law teams in Leeds and Manchester in 2008.
Further Manchester expansion came in 2013 through the bolt-on of George Davies, while in 2017 the firm bulked up significantly in London through a merger with Maxwell Winward, which had a strong real estate and construction practice.
International expansion has not happened so far but Mills & Reeve has referral relationships with French firm FIDAL and Graf von Westphalen in Germany.
