DLA Piper is lucky to have legal director and AI whiz Ilan Sherr. Responsible for the firm’s service, Aiscension, Sherr has been helping to deliver AI-enabled tools before they were made cool by the arrival of ChatGPT in 2022. Sherr started with a product to find cartel risks within corporations and in 2023 he oversaw the launch of a product to detect bribery. This last tool can be run by just one lawyer to rank and review more than 3 million documents within 67 hours compared to the 9,500 hours it would typically take using conventional review – that’s 99.3 per cent faster.
Beyond product development, Sherr has recently turned his hand to consultancy-style interactions with in-house legal teams, offering practical insights into AI implementation. His commitments also extend beyond the AI domain, as he serves as the co-chair of DLA Piper’s international parents and carers network, adding an extra layer of engagement to his already dynamic responsibilities.
Looking ahead to 2024, Sherr anticipates further strides, with plans to launch additional tools at Aiscension, driven by the swift evolution of AI. Notably, the company’s intention to incorporate generative AI in reporting processes will showcase an ongoing commitment to innovation and efficiency.
