If 2023 was the year when the world woke up to AI, it was also the year that Jason Raeburn’s practice moved into the mainstream. After a childhood spent tinkering with computers and trying to learn coding, Raeburn’s path into the tech world felt natural. The Paul Hastings partner, who leads the firm’s IP and tech litigation practice in London, increasingly specialises in some of the most cutting-edge disputes flowing out of the AI revolution.
Raeburn breaks his practice into three areas: IP litigation, risk advice to companies using AI, and complex technology litigation. At the fore front of paving a legal path through the unknown world of AI, major clients have included Google’s AI subsidiary, Google DeepMind, along with the likes of Comcast, Ripple and YouTube.
Although much of his work, which is often on arbitrations or risk advice, remains confidential he is currently acting for US stock exchange NASDAQ on a major and novel trademark AI case involving the use of NASDAQ data.
Having trained at Baker McKenzie where he spent 12 years, Raeburn also qualified as a solicitor-advocate. He was subsequently appointed as a deputy master of the High Court in Autumn 2022 – believed to be the youngest ever appointee at just 32, while is also the general editor of the Green Book.
