Vinson & Elkins did not report revenue for its London office for 2023, but The Lawyer has estimated that its fee income increased by 9 per cent to $67m over the past financial year. Globally, in 2023 the firm crossed the $1bn revenue mark, upping its topline figures by 7.4 per cent. Lawyer headcount in the City also went up for the first time in two years, increasing to 55.3 FTE from 46. As one of the firm’s three international offices outside the US, the London office (alongside bases in Dubai and Tokyo) plays a critical role in what office managing partner Nick Henchie describes as the firm’s continued commitment to winning international mandates, with energy and infrastructure clients and attracting senior-level lawyers with expertise in these key sectors.
Vinson recently showed its capabilities in the London recruitment market by bringing in partners from firms with significantly larger City offerings. Following the hiring of head of corporate Ben Higson from Hogan Lovells at the end of 2022, the firm has been gearing up for making further investments in the transactional side of its offering. Higson brought in Milbank energy transitions partner Christopher Taufatofua. He was followed by special counsel Kilian de Cintré, who was promoted to Vinson’s partnership upon moving.
